What this site is

Yama Nikki (山日記, "mountain diary") is a personal hiking blog run by a hiking enthusiast who lives in the Kanto region of Japan. The main site is in Japanese; trip reports are based on hikes the author actually walked.

This English section collects guides for international visitors and residents who plan to hike in Japan.

How the English articles are written

English articles are explanatory guides. They are compiled from official information such as municipalities, transport operators, mountain huts and park authorities, and from other reliable sources. They are not personal trip reports, and they may cover mountains or routes the author has not walked.

Rules, fees, timetables and closures change. Please confirm the latest information with the official source before you go. The author updates articles when changes are found.
